Kaidr was hunched over his computer. He was working on a project for his magician's training. His master wanted him to develop a TF item. After watching the movie How to Train Your Dragon, Kaidr had the idea of making a 'special edition' of the movie. The TF magic was already contained in the disk, but he was working out the final details of the character that the victim would be changed to.
He glanced down at the clock in the corner of the screen as he tried to cover a yawn. "3:43? How the time fly." Kaidr said drowsily. The program was all done, but it would take the rest of the night for it to download to the disk. He closed down all of the programs he had been using, except the one writing the disk, and turned off the monitor.
He woke up the next morning about 7. On top of his training, he also went to mundane school, which he was late, and getter later for. He grabbed the grabbed his friend's copy of the movie from the DVD player and the TF Version from the computer and made his first mistake of the day. The cases he put them in were identical. He dropped them in his backpack and ran out to the school bus. He turned sixteen two months ago and he still didn't have any transportation.
The ride to school was boring; the bus driver was boring. If you could sum up school in one word, you would get 'boring'. He made it to school and began to look for Arykh to return his movie. Even though Arykh was his closest friend, not even he knew that Kaidr was a magician.
I saw Kaidr before he saw me. I walked over and place my hand on his shoulder. At first he was startled, but then he saw who it was and grinned.
"Hello Arykh, I finished your movie." He informed me as he fished through his bag. He pulled out the case with the movie in it.
"Thanks Kaidr, how did you like it?" I asked him
"It was great" he answered, but the slight hesitation at the end led me to believe he hasn't told me everything.
"Sure…" I added curious, but at that moment the bell rung for classes. "I'll see you later." We didn't have any classes together, but we always passed each other in the hallways. My first class was Computer Literacy. We had a project, but I completed the assigned PowerPoint yesterday. Now I had the entire class to mess around on the computer. Which, after the teacher took role, I did.
I took my movie that I had just gotten back from my friend out of its case and it shocked me. It was a quick jolt and nearly made me drop the movie, but it faded quickly and I shrugged it off. I placed the disk into the computer. After digging though my bag again, I pulled out a pair of headphones and plugged them into the computer. The movie began to play and I sat back in my seat.
The weirdest thing was that from the moment I began watching, to the time when the bell rang and the end credits began, I don't remember anything. Now How to Train Your Dragon is one of my favorite movies and I never tire of watching it. So the fact that I dozed out during the movie completely puzzled me.
The other students began leave the classroom and I grabbed my movie from the computer and followed suit. As I walked to my next class, the back of my neck began extremely itchy. I felt my fingernails pull away layers of dead and dry skin until it gave way to smooth skin. I passed Kaidr and we nodded to each other. The itching sensation increased and I then made an attempt to stop scratching.
Once in my next class, the sensation grew and I asked to be excused from class. With a nod from the teacher I left the room and went down to the bathroom. My arms had begun to feel numb and I felt like I was wearing a second skin. If only to make matters worse, Johnny Dras and his lackeys were in the bathroom.
"Oh s***" I moan as they surround me, cutting off all escape.
"What do we have here?" Johnny asked.
"It seems we have an intruder." Lackey 1 informs.
"So it does," Johnny agrees, before he talks to me, "Intruders pay for trespassing."
"I don't have any money." I reply, already agitated.
"Then we are going to bust in your face, get 'em" he commanded to his two lackeys.
Subconsciously I let off a low growl, and the lackeys looked at me like I was crazy. Heck, I thought I was crazy. "Leave me alone." I said after I stopped growling.
"Take him down" Johnny edged. His followers approached and what happened next, I couldn't have done if I practiced. I gave a jaw-breaking uppercut to the one on e the left and I sent him flying backwards into the wall. The next one hesitated and that cost him his nose, but it did begin his career in ballerina spinning. With both his friends unconscious, Johnny began to be afraid of me. Smart man, but not smart enough.
I leaped nearly seven feet in the air, and did a front-flip with my right foot extended. Just as I came out of my flip, my foot connected solidly to Johnny's head and he crumpled to the ground. I landed lightly and no worse for wear.
Then I began to be very afraid. I had just laid out three guys much, much stronger than I was, and I didn't even take a hit. In my nervousness, I had begun to scratch my arm. When I felt the smooth skin again, I looked down and noticed it wasn't skin, but scales. Jet black, smooth as water, just like a Nightfury's. I then remembered what happened with the movie when I watched it earlier.
<That had to have to do something with it> I thought. All thoughts about school policy flew from my mind. I ran down the hall toward Kaidr's second class. He said it was a private tutor class, but right now, he was my only connection to the movie.
I soon saw him with the same worried look I had.
"Kaidr, what is with that movie you gave me?" I asked desperate.
"Please. Please please please please PLEASE! Tell me you haven't watched the movie I gave you."
"I remember the beginning and I remember the end, but nothing else."
"Master is going to have me blocked for a month." He said walking around clutching his head. I began scratching again, revealing more black scales. He noticed the movement and sighed, "Come with me, we need to get to a more secluded spot."
"Why?" I asked.
"I'll explain on the way, but if we stay here, there is going to be a lot of trouble, especially for you."
Since he seemed to be the only one who knew crap about what was happening, I followed him out of the school. As we were running, more of my skin fell off and my clothes began to feel tight. However, my muscles seemed stronger than ever.
Up ahead, Kaidr mumbled something under his breath as he ran into the forest. I heard a load pop, as if a large vacuum had just been broken just as Kaidr stopped on the edge of a cliff. I stood by him, my arms and lower legs completely stripped of skin, leaving the glossy scales. The cliff was actually the wall of a large depression in the ground. Nearly circular, it was about 100 feet in diameter with a 35 foot pond in the center. The cliffs that surrounded all sides were about 30 feet high. But the most surprising thing about the depression was that it was familiar. It was the place where Toothless lived during the movie.
"Alright I owe you an explanation; I'm in training to be a magician." He began.
"What do you mean? Magic doesn't …." I Stopped talking as he mumbled something and a ramp of rock erupted out of the ground below and ended just below our feet.
"Come on" he said walking down the cliff.
"What was that?" I nervously chuckle.
"Magic" he replies plainly. We walk off the ramp and he turns around. He mutters a few more words, which I had now guessed to be words for a spell, and the ramp slides back into the ground. "I already said that I'm a magician."
"Well, my latest project was supposed to be a transformation item." He reaches in his bag and pulls out a copy of How to Train Your Dragon. "This is your movie, the copy I gave you was my TF project."
"So you mean… I am… What have you done?!"
"I'm sorry, I really am. The disk was never supposed to be used on anybody." He apologized. I felt a sharp pain in my hands as they became draconic and talons grew out of my remaining fingertips. My forearms became more oval shaped.
"What am I changing into? A Nightfury?"
"To be even more specific, Toothless." He answered sheeply.
My clothes had now begun to feel restricting. "You can't be serious. Stop it, I don't want to change."
"If I stop the process now, you will be stuck as you are now." he said pained that he caused his friend's transformation.
I thought for a moment and quickly decided, "Fine, speed up the process, my old skin is getting irritating."
He nodded and informed me, "Then you might want to change into your gym shorts; wearing anything else during a transformation is asking for pain."
I nodded and slipped off my shirt and pants, for I was already wearing my gym shorts underneath.
"You ready?" he asked.
"Don't make me answer that." He nodded and then created a sphere of energy around his hand. He then flicked his hand toward me and the sphere disappeared into my body.
"When does it st-" I was cut off with a loud roar as my body began to violently change.
Any skin I had left immediately fell off; I was now completely covered in a Nightfury's black scales. I felt the scales slide apart on both sides of my spine and at the base of my tailbone, which was about to have a more literal meaning. Dark wings extended from my back, and I furled them close against my back as my tail began to grow out. When it was about half of my length again, the secondary wings began to grow out close to the base. I then collapsed to all fours as I felt my hip began to reshape to suit a four-legged stance and my body became more streamlined. My shoes were a pile of shreds as my feet became identical to my hands. During this time I was constantly growing larger.
When my tail was finally done growing, the last two fins began to grow out and the small spikes ran down my back and to the end of my tail. However, I could immediately feel that the end of my tail was off balance. And when I looked behind me, I saw that I was missing my left fin on the end of the tail, just like Toothless. Which also meant I couldn't fly without some help.
"Did you really have to add that detail?" I complained to Kaidr who had also noticed the missing fin.
"I didn't actually think that anyone would be transformed by my disk." He shrugged
Then the real pain started. Think of the biggest headache and then multiply it by ten, divide by two, and multiply again by ten. Physically, my head had begun to broaden into that of a Nightfury's. Mentally, I felt another consciousness enter my mind and fuse itself to my own. I saw Kaidr grimace at my pain. Personally, I didn't blame him; he did cause this after all.
The eight fins that adorned the top of Toothless's head grew out of mine. My eyes began to move toward the end of my growing muzzle and became a deep emerald green. My nose fused with my new muzzle and became two slits at the end of it. My teeth fell out to be replaced by razor-sharp canines embedded in a Nightfury's special gums that let the teeth retract. The last thing to change was my neck, which soon fixed that by growing longer. I lay collapsed on the ground; exhausted by my transformation.
Kaidr cautiously approached, "Arykh?"
I lifted my head to look at him. I recognized him as my friend Kaidr, but another part of my mind saw him as the person who caused me massive amounts of pain. I let loose a roar in my confusion. "Arykh, calm down." Kaidr coaxed.
My mind had become a battleground of emotions and thoughts. Only one thought was recognized: get away from the source of confusion, my friend/enemy Kaidr. I spread my wings and lifted off the air. I angled my tail to rise above the cliff and then was thrown horribly off balance. I crashed into the base of the cliff instead.
I heard someone running toward me and turned to see Kaidr. "Leave me alone!" I growled. However, a growl was all that was heard.
"Arykh, Toothless's mind has fused to your own, you must overcome it." He warned.
I righted myself and focused on the turmoil in my mind. I recognized the thoughts that were my own, and the thoughts Toothless was influencing. I then formed a field in my mind and condensed the separate thoughts into myself and Toothless. Once he was formed, he growled threateningly at me and was surprised to hear that I understood him. "What is going on? Why are you in my mind?" he demanded.
I noticed that I had formed myself as a Nightfury, and was a little glad I did. I growled back, "You have it wrong, you have entered my mind."
Toothless then looked puzzled, "What do you mean?"
I replied, "My friend out there, Kaidr, transformed me into you. In doing so, he added your mind to mine."
His eyes changed from the hostile narrow, to the friendlier wide. "Oh" he then cautiously approached me. I mimicked him and soon we were about 3 feet from each other. He took a couple of deep breaths, most likely drawing in my scent. He then opened his mouth and the gas that fuels a dragon's fire billowed from the back of his throat.
I jumped back in surprise. Toothless shook his head, "You may look and smell like a Nightfury, but you are nothing of the sort."
"Hey! What is that supposed to mean?" I replied insulted.
"You have the form but not the mind. I have the mind, but not the body. Care to make a deal?"
I pondered over what he said, it made sense. "Alright, what are the terms?"
"We fuse. Mind for mind. I cannot exist without your body, and you cannot survive without my help. It was me controlling the wings when we flew…sort of." He explained.
Without any hesitation, we walked into each other, becoming one mind. We/I were then dragged back to our/my body. Kaidr was nowhere to be seen, so I must have been out for a while.
I felt memories from Arykh, and I felt memories from Toothless. Yet, I was neither of the two. Thinking for a moment, I named myself Dayyis.
Stretching my wings again, I swung my tail and I felt the off balance again.
What is the point of being a dragon if I can't even fly? I-Arykh thought.
I closed my wings and went over to the lake. I-Toothless thought about fishing, while I-Arykh was admiring my form. I was really going to have to learn to focus my two minds to one thing. However, I noticed in the surface's reflection, that Kaidr had returned. I turned to meet him.
Instead of using the stone ramp, like before, he was climbing down a break in the cliff. When he made it to the bottom of the cliff, I noticed that he had a bunch of gear slung over his shoulder. Ecstatic, I bounded over to him. Cautious from our earlier experience, he hid in the protection of the cliff.
"I'm not going to attack you anymore." I offered but I still couldn't speak human. I growled in annoyance and instead I scratched the words, 'I fused the minds of Arykh and Toothless, my name is now Dayyis. You do not have to be afraid.' Slightly comforted, Kaidr walked closer. As I had guessed, the gear on his shoulder was the equipment that Hiccup installed on Toothless so they could fly.
"Ah, I can tell you recognize the flight gear." He said. I nodded vigorously. "Can I put it on?" More nodding.
He walks over to the end of my tail and I turn my elongated neck to watch him as he straps on the tail fin.
"Don't you even think about it" he warned as I had begun to spread my wings. I growled and closed them again. He then placed a saddle across my back. At this I began to feel torn between I-Toothless's sense of déjà vu excitement, and I-Arykh beginning to feel like a horse. I focused and fused my minds together and let Kaidr finish. After he connected the wires between the artificial fin and the saddle, he stepped back to make sure it was on right. That is when I knocked him off of his feet with my tail and then pinned him to the ground. I stood over him and struggled to speak.
"D-d-don dik, iym yor wyde. I con dill reisun."
"Did you say, 'Don't think I'm your ride. I can still reason.'?" He clarified. I nodded and got off of him. As he got back up, I bent down so he could get in the saddle easier. I wanted to fly as much as he did.
He jumped on my back and I opened my wings. He slipped his foot inside of the pedal and pressed it. I felt the change of the artificial fin immediately.
"What are you waiting for? Let's go" I smacked him with one of the fins on my head. "Right, sorry."
I then leapt in the air and began to pump my wings. Once again I angled my tail to rise above the cliff, but this time, my tail changed my course and I was able to gain height. Once I rose above the trees. I reveled in the sense of flight. Not just being the pilot, but under my own power and direction, it was a new experience all together. I rise into a straight vertical upwards and Kaidr angles the fake fin to follow.
As I flew above the human city, I thought that maybe I wouldn't mind helping Kaidr around. He might even find a way to transform me back to a human, which both I-Arykh and I-Toothless found appealing; and/or transform a female into a mate for me.
However, right now I just wanted to fly.
